A Rukungiri district man has been arrested and charged with murder of his wife.
Richard Rukuunya alias Sanyu, 60, a resident of Nyakasa village Ibanda Parish Nyarushanje Sub county, Rukungiri district reportedly developed a misunderstanding with his wife, Maria Busingye, 49, on March 17 assaulting her to death.
The fight attracted a neighbor, Kyarimpa Diana who chose to take the deceased to her home and spent a night without any treatment, until her relatives rushed her to Rubabo medical centre where she died on March 19.
A case of murder by assault was recorded at Rubabo police station vide file reference number CRB: 071/2024.
The Kigezi region police spokesperson ASP Elly Maate said they arrested one suspect (Richard Rukunya) and he is in custody at CPS Rukungiri.
“Police was notified by the chairman local council three Nyarushanje Michael Musime, case was registered at Rubabo Police Station vide sd ref 11/19/03/2024, Crime scene was visited examined and documented, suspect was arrested and now in custody at Rukungiri CPS” he said
Busingye’s body was taken to Rwakabengo HC III mortuary for postmortem and inquiries are on going hand.
Maate condemned increased cases of domestic violence in the area and urged residents especially married couples to report domestic violence to relevant local authorities to help them out than taking laws in their own hands.
