Uganda Business and Technical Examinations Board (UBTEB) has recorded a razor-sharp decrease in the number of candidates who turned up to sit for this year’s July-August examination series.
Data at the UNEB indicates that of the total 3,051 candidates registered to sit for the exams at 36 examination centres, 14 percent did not turn up and were registered as missing candidates.
“Out of the total 3,051 candidates who registered for end of programme examinations, 2,615 (86%) turned up for examinations,” UBTEB said.
This was revealed at the ongoing release of July-August 2023 end of program examinations results at Uganda Institute of Information Communication and Technology in Nakawa Division, Kampala district.
The cause of candidates failing to sit or examinations has hitherto been attributed to financial difficulties such as lack of tuition fee, students and parents failure to raise the required practical examination materials for technical and Vocational papers.
According to the released results statistics, out of the 2,615 candidates who sat for examinations, 2,106 Candidates (81%) successfully acquired all competencies in their respective trades.
