St. Lawrence University hopes to play in the University football league finals are still valid after yesterday’s home win against Makerere Business School (MUBS) in a 2-1 win.
St. Lawrence, SLAU as popularly known by its acronym came from behind to edge two-time champions MUBS in the second half of the match in their first leg played at Kavuule on Tuesday.
Nazar Benjamin was the first to net in a goal for the visitors – MUBS in the 57″ and Bunyaga Bruno equalized for SLAU in the 67″ before Kayongo Michael gave the hosts a deserved lead in the 73″.
St. Lawrence were the most dominant side and should be hoping to carry the same performance into the second leg at Nakawa while the away goal is huge for MUBS to build on.
There is still all to play in this tie given that MUBS will welcome St. Lawrence in the second leg in Nakawa on Tuesday, November 1st.
The second leg of the league returns on Thursday October 27 with former champions Uganda Martyrs University hosting defending champions Uganda Christian University in Nkozi to determine who will qualify to the finals.
UCU goes to Nkozi with a win after they defeated Uganda Martyrs 1-0 in the first leg in Mukono last week. Uganda Martyrs will only fancy their chances of making it to the final for the first time since 2017 when they won the title.
The winner in this match will face off the winner from the MUBS Vs SLAU at the finals.
