A 31-year-old man is in police custody on accusations of unzipping his pair of trousers and vigorously rub his penis on a female passenger in a public transport.
The accused is Ivan Mungungeyo, a social worker and resident of Wampewo, Kasawe zone, Kasangati Town Council in Kampala. He allegedly molested Tracy (surname undisclosed), 21, a fellow passenger in a bus registration number UBF 691T belonging to Nile Star coaches, which was travelling from Kampala to Arua City on June 8.
It is alleged that on the fateful day, at about 8pm, the victim who is a student in one of the universities in Kampala was booked in seat 21 where she sat next to unidentified lady who stopped at Luweero town along Kampala-Gulu highway.
Mungungeyo later occupied the vacant seat and shortly started caressing Tracy’s thighs uncontrollably.
“At around Kichobonyobo village in Masindi, the suspect unzipped and released his ‘member’ and rubbed it on the victim’s sweater, which annoyed her and she made an alarm in the bus,” police said.
This prompted the victim to leave her seat and went in front to sit on the Executive seats. She narrated to the bus conductor and touts what her male seatmate had done.
When asked about the accusations against him, Mungungeyo denied the allegation claiming that he forgot to zip up his trouser and that’s why his penis was out.
However, when the bus arrived at Pakwach, the bus operators tipped police, who promptly arrested the suspect.
The West Nile Region police spokesperson, Josephine Angucia told reports that they recorded statements from the victim and other relevant witnesses and the suspect was charged with indecent assault.
“The suspect was detained pending investigations under Pakwach CRB 223/2024,” she said
Police applauded the bus operators for not tolerating such indecent behaviour by reporting it for investigations and proper management.
