Kawempe North MP elect Ssegirinya Muhammed aka Mr updates is in a panic mode after court further remanded him to Kitalya govt prison.
Ssegirinya was left in tears after his bail plea flopped and he was ordered back to Kitalya maximum prison.
Ssegirinya had appeared before the Buganda Road Court Magistrate Gladys Kamasanyu via video conferencing from Kitalya after he remanded on 23rd March 2021.
To his dismay, the magistrate sent him back on grounds that his lawyers failed to agree on proceedings at the court.
His legal team led by Shamim Malende and Kinene Abdul and Kiryoowa Jonathan from KM advocates say they both had come to court under different instructions,
Kiryoowa Jonathan says he had come prepared for a bail application while Shamim Malende says it was a mention of the case.
The State represented by Joan Keko the state prosecuter says they had also brought to court 3 witnesses to testify which his lawyers were unprepared for.
The courtroom was heated for close to 20 minutes.
The magistrate kamasanyu was compelled to push the case further, she adjourned court to 15th April 2021.
Rolling his eyes like a bewildered cat ,Ssegirinya pleaded with court for freedom claiming that he is an MP elect and staying further in jail would cause him to loose his chance to swear in .
He also begged the magistrate to grant him bail because his health was deteriorating after he was battered by police during his arrest.
He stated that his balls were still hurting since he was grabbed and he was in need of treatment outside jail. However all this was overlooked.
Ssegirnya was sent to jail on charges of inciting violence following a protest he held in downtown Kampala over the protracted detention of National Unity Platform-NUP members.
Prosecution alleges that on the 22nd of March 2021 while at Mini Price ,downtown Kampala, Segirinya and group of others still at large participated in a protest with placards demanding the release of political prisoners.
