A 72-year-old teacher Dokolo district on Sunday committed suicide after he reportedly failed to pay a loan that he had acquired from a village savings group.
David Omia Kibuka, a resident of Aliwok primary school in Kangai Sub County and is a resident of Anwangi village, Anwangi parish, Kwera Sub County committed suicide by hanging in his house.
According to reports, it is alleged that the deceased committed the stressful act while the rest of his family members were at church for a Sunday service. These upon return, discovered his body hanging in the house.
The Anwangi village chairman, Leone Owiny said they got reports that Omia had a loan of about 1 million shillings that he got from a village saving group which he had failed to clear.
A close family source who preferred anonymity also said the group had previously written a letter to him demanding for their pay which could have sparked the suicidal incident.
Police led by Romans Onek-Giu, the community liaison officer of Dokolo district visited the scene of the crime and allowed family to continue with burial arrangements.
