Top ADF Commander Behind Heinous Attack in Kasese Arrested

In a significant breakthrough, security forces have apprehended a top commander of the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) responsible for a brutal attack in Kasese District. Identified as Kamusi, the commander was captured after sustaining injuries during a confrontation with security forces in Kibale Forest.

The incident, which occurred on 5th December 2023, shocked the community when Kamusi and his group mercilessly attacked an elderly lady, Biira Betty, in Kanyatete village. Tragically, Betty lost her life in the attack, while her attendant, 14-year-old Masereka Harrison, sustained injuries.

Col. Deo Akiki the UPDF spokesperson applauded the cooperation between the UPDF and the deceased’s relatives who provided information regarding the attack. Kamusi and his group were located in Kibale forest through technical intelligence. During the operation, two of Kamusi’s close bodyguards were neutralized, and several weapons were seized, including two SMG rifles with a total of 37 rounds of ammunition.

Akiki noted that this was believed to be the surviving group of Njovu, another ADF member who was arrested in November. It appeared that Kamusi’s group was attempting to establish new bases in Kibale forest before their capture.

The successful arrest is a testament to the vigilance of the local population, who provided timely information and cooperated with the security forces. Their efforts ensure that our hard-earned peace is preserved and protected from the threat of terrorism.

UPDF has urged the public to remain watchful and report any suspicious individuals or unattended items to the police or the nearest security post. He said by maintaining a high level of alertness, together we can continue to uphold the security and tranquility of our communities.
