At a time when the country is faced with increasingly road transport, the traffic and road safety police has issued new orders to all bus operators to follow while on the road.
According to the guidelines that were given yesterday by the traffic police Spokesperson ASP Faridah Nampiima, bus drivers are required to have their photos with in the buses and badges of the bus companies they work for.
She noted the badges will consist of the drivers name, driving licence number and the company name.
She ordered each bus company to issue route charts to their drivers urging that each bus should follow the stipulated route time schedules lest they risk arrest and impounding of their vehicles.
¶So, each each bus owners are reminded to operate their buses out on the route charts since no bus will be allowed to operate on road out of time.¶
This follows the two incidents one of the road accident that involved Roblyn Bus company registration number UAT 259P and a trailer at Adebe trading centre few kilometres from Kamdini corner. Over 15 people lost their lives in the accident. The driver of the bus was filmed eating Karo and meat while on the road. Another incident is of a global bus driver Fikiri Brown Joseph who was captured on the video four days ago texting and surfing while driving.
He was arrested in Kyengera along Kampala-Masaka highway and the bus was impounded.
The incidents have prompted police to issue new traffic rules to bus operators to reduce on the accidents.
