The Amolatar Grade One Magistrate on Thursday, 25th of November, 2021, remanded two district councilors: Gladys Esegu and Eng. Jasper Okori Okot who were arrested the previous day for removing the list of successful job applicants from the district notice board.
Gladys Esegu, the female councilor for Awelo sub-county who also doubles as the secretary for works and technical services and Eng. Jasper Okori Okot, the district vice chairperson and the area councilor for Acii sub-county were arrested by police for plucking the list of successful applicants for parish chiefs and shortlisted applicants for health workers from the public notice board. They were remanded up to 2nd December 2021 when the matter will be brought back to court.
The accused lawyer Phoenician Okwir has arraigned Amolatar district chairperson, Ocen Geoffrey, Opwonya Bosco who is a councilor of Namusale Town Council and Obua Sam of Angwingiri Sub County as their sureties for bail but the magistrate declined to grant them the same saying the matter against them is a public interest and their release could jeopardize it as one of the co-accused is still also at large.
In a related development, Amolatar district council sitting was yesterday adjourned up to 2nd December 2021 following concerns raised by the district chairperson, Geoffrey Ocen over arrest of two of his executive members.
The members of the executive who were remanded by Amolatar magistrate Court were district vice chairperson Eng. Jasper Okori Okot, and Gladys Esegu, the female councilor for Awelo sub-county who also doubles as the secretary for works and technical services.
However, councilors including Ogwal Morris and Uumu Patrick objected the concern of the district chairperson saying there is no law in the rule of procedures of council that provides that a council meeting should be adjourned due to absence of some members of the executive. Despite this, the speaker Ojok Patrick ruled for the adjournment of the council up to 2nd December 2021.
