A couple in Masindi-Kitara Diocese has been suspended from administering church activities over alleged grave misconduct.
Rev. Cann. Joshua Kugonza, the diocesan secretary said on Thursday (June 20) that Bishop George William Kasangaki had suspended from ministry Rev. Henry Kauya and his wife for deserting the church to start up their own faith. The diocesan secretary further disclosed that Rev. Kauya is also accused of marrying a second wife which contradicts CoU canon laws.
“The Bishop has also suspended two other Reverends (names withheld) and they are pending synod resolution,” Rev. Kugonza told a synod meeting at St. Matthew’s Cathedral Masindi on Thursday.
Retirement Plans
Bishop Kasangaki has served Masindi-Kitara diocese for 13 years when he took over from the former Bishop Stanley Ntagali who later became the ArchBishop of the CoU in 2012. He is set to retire on August 3 according to the diocesan secretary.

This is not the first time an Anglican priest is suspended from the ministry over marital reasons. In January, West Ankole Diocese Bishop, Rt. Rev. Johnson Twinomujuni suspended Rev. Nice Nahwera, the curate priest at Nyakabirizi CoU after her husband married a second wife. According to the Bishop, this rendered the priest polygamous.
“Her husband married another wife and that rendered Nahwera to be in a polygamous marriage,” Bishop Twinomujuni said as he suspended the priest.
