Unknown assailants clad in civilian clothes have raided a police post in Kiboga District, killed two police officers and went away with their guns.
On Thursday evening at around 7:30 PM, four armed men raided Nakasozi/Nakasengere Police Post and shot dead Cpl Francis Nsubuga, OC station and SPC Ddumba Paul, before stealing their guns.
According to the Wamala region police PRO, ASP Racheal Kawala, the officers were attacked while seated at the police post, by a gang of 4 armed men, dressed in civilian attire.
Police CID Spokesperson Charles Twine confirmed to the incident which he described as an unfortunate; “It is true and we have sent a team on ground. It is unfortunate” he said.
Twiine did not however disclose the number of guns that were stolen by the assailants.
This is the second such kind of attack within a duration of nine days, targeting police officers and their guns in a period of nine days.
ASP Kawala has said the motive of the suspects is not yet determined but vowed to arrest anybody that was involved.
“We have dispatched our teams from the Flying squad unit, to team up with the territorial police and ensure the suspects are identified and brought to justice,” she said
Similar Incidents
On December 7, when two officers were attacked and murdered in aggrevated robbery at Ssebobo village, Sekanyonyi Town Council.
The Wamala Region police PRO, ASP Racheal Kawala, said the officers were responding to an alleged complaint by two victims who claimed they had been robbed of proceeds from their tomato business.
The deceased were identified as CPL Alfred Okech and PC Moses Kigongo.
Police reports indicate that in the last Eight months, four guns have been robbed from their officers and only two have been recovered.
