Two pupils of Kasana Junior School in Masaka city have been confirmed dead, over six others and school matron injured following early morning fire outbreak.
The fire started at around 4am on Monday in a boy’s dormitory and destroyed a number of properties and lives.
The affected dormitory accommodated about 15 children of Top and P1 class, according to authorities.
Southern regional deputy police commander Jamada Wandera, identified the deceased as Malik Katende and Aloysius Katende while the injured pupils are Grant Natovu, Arnold Mwesigye, Alpha Wasswa, Shalid Nwanje, Martin Muganga, Augustine Kisomose. Others are only identified by their surnames and they are Ahimbisibwe and Senoga.
“Based on our assessment, the probable cause of the fire might have been a short circuit at a point where the matron could have put a phone charging,” Jamada said.
The cause of the fire was according to police attributed to an electric short circuit. Police said there was no any I’ll motive to cause outbreak.
By publication time, the injured pupils were at Masaka referral hospital receiving treatment. May the souls of the deceased Rest In Peace
