At least ten women are to benefit in Uganda Investments Authority (UIA) Rising Woman Initiative after they merged winners of the initiative’s sixth edition.
They will receive training, recognition, exposure, access to a mentorship program in diverse businesses.
Launched in August last year, Rising Woman Initiative is an initiative of UIA and partners such as DFCU Bank, Uganda Airlines and Nation Media Group (Daily Monitor). It aims to recognize, celebrate, and promote a culture of mentorship among women in the business space in Uganda.
Yesterday, the winners were flagged off to Nairobi Kenya for a one week mentorship program in entrepreneurship.
“This afternoon, uganda investment authority (UIA) joined dfcu group and other partners to flag off ten women entrepreneurs to Nairobi on an all-expenses paid study excursion. The women entrepreneurs, responded to call for business proposals under the Rising Women Initiative,” UIA posted on their official X platform, formerly Twitter.
Richard Nuwenyesiga, an official from UIA urged the public in small business operations to utilize the authority SME Portal for more investment opportunities in Uganda.
“At UIA, our job is to encourage & facilitate investment. Please sign up for the SME Portal at mybusiness.go.ug. It offers vital information in real time for the dev’t of businesses, as well as new regulations, initiatives and commercial expansion prospects,” he said.
Kate K Kiiza, Executive Director dfcu group said the trip will equip the women entrepreneurs with multi-business knowledge.
“The trip is anticipated to improve your awareness of diverse businesses, teach you how to operate sustainable enterprises, take advantage of partnership opportunities, & investigate innovations and best practices that you may implement in Uganda,” he said.
The Rising Woman Initiative was first launched in 2018 and has had five successful editions. Over the past four years, Rising Woman has directly benefited more than 60,000 women and over 1 million more, virtually, through a range of programs that included regional power training, Live TV talk shows, proposal writing competitions, and mentorship trips within the region.
The Rising Woman Initiative provides an avenue to work with diverse women to turn business ideas into reality and act as agents of change in their communities whilst addressing the ever-growing challenges they face.
Speaking at the same ceremony, the NMG (U) Managing Director, Susan Nsibirwa said the selected (top10) Women in Business are winners of the the proposal writing for the 2023 competition. She said the initiative is committed to providing female entrepreneurs with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to improve their businesses and to enable them to create profitable operations.
