Sharon Arach Oyat, the party spokesperson says that lockdown measures imposed on districts of Kasanda and Mubende restrict movement of people and commodities whence affecting lives and economies in the area.

“UPC urges government to provide basic food and essential to residents in the affected districts since they are unable to cross to the neighbouring districts to fend for their families as it was done during the two year lockdown of covid-19” Oyat emphasized

Arach also noted that diseases and pandemics like cholera, malaria, ebola and ebola thrive most where there is less attention to hygiene and sanitation which exposes the public to infection risks. She appealed to government to step up in training of hygiene, health management and control as well as extend clean piped water to the villages across the country to reduce the risks of exposing members of the public to such diseases.

President Museveni last week announced a lockdown in districts of kasanda and mubende to curb the spread of ebola. He issued a number of directives such as the 7pm – 6am curfew, banning of public and private transport to and from the locked districts among others

The president also suspended the activities of traditional healers and places of worship in a bid to treat ebola patients under the guise of miraculous healings

UPC has welcomed the suspension calling for amplification of the message to the village levels and encourage the public to stick to only guidelines by health ministry.
