Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces UPDF  to carry out a nationwide recruitment  starting 1st to 14th July 2024.

Brig. Gen. Felix Kulayigye, the UPDF Spokesperson, while addressing a press conference at the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs Headquarters in Mbuya- Kampala on Monday, said the Army intends to recruit a total of 9624 young Ugandans to join the infantry Forces.

He said the requirements for successful recruits include; being of the age bracket between 18-22, holding an Ordinary Certificate of Education (O-level), who sat their exams between 2000 and 2023, with a pass in English and Mathematics and being disciplined and with a sound mind and physically fit.

Aspiring candidates applying to join the regular force will get recommendations from Local Council 1,2 and 3 (LCI, LCII, LCIII), Gombolola Internal Security Officer (GISO) and District Internal Security Officer (DISO).

“Thereafter, they will submit their application forms to the office of the Resident District Commissioner (RDC), where they will be registered and awaiting collection by the UPDF collection teams that will submit them to the office of Joint Staff, Human Resource Management which will cause a shortlist”, he said.

He said the list of successful applicants will be published and displayed on the district or city notice boards, informing the shortlisted applicants to appear at designated recruitment centres for the final interviews.

“The recruitment shall be conducted using the projected population figures of each district or city of Uganda that forms the basis of recruitment quotas”, he added.

Brig.Gen. Alex Olupot, the UPDF Joint Chief of staff Training and Doctrine, highlighted the UPDF recruitment roadmap exercise. He said their teams shall cover all the 135 districts comprising all the five geographical regions of Uganda.

“We shall recruit in accordance with UPDF doctrines by providing employment opportunities to the youth, in addition to guaranteeing national security and sovereignty of Uganda”, he said. He called on interested candidates to download the application forms from the UPDF website: wwww.upf.go.ug/careers.
