Former Vision Group and RUKUNGIRI based journalist Fred Kakurugu has died of corona virus, family confirmed.
Kakurugu, known of diabetes was rushed to St. Charles Karori Nyakibaale hospital after complaining of feeling unwell and was immediately put on life supporting machines until medical specialists advised to transfer him to Mbarara referral where hewas diagnosed with COVID-19 which has claimed his life.
He passed on Friday December31st at around 3:30Am.
Kakurugu survives with two wives and was blessed with 14 children whom he has left behind.
He worked with Vision Group under the New Vision Newspaper and was at the time of his death, a freelancer at Uganda’s Tabloid Newspapers, Red Pepper and Eihwa – Runyakitara vernacular News print.
He becomes the second journalist to succumb to COVID-19 after former Lyantonde RDC, Sulaiman Tiguragara Matojo, also a veteran journalist at Vision Group who passed on in November.
By Press time, Kakurugu’s body was still at the hospital mortuary awaiting for funeral.
