The weather forecast for this week shows moderate to heavy rainfall expected over the East African region, particularly in Tanzania, Rwanda, and Burundi. In addition to the rainy conditions, warmer than average temperatures are forecasted for most parts of the region. However, residents in South Sudan, and northern and eastern Kenya should be prepared for elevated levels of heat stress.
Between the 19th and 26th of March 2024, moderate rainfall ranging from 50-200mm is expected over the southern parts of Uganda, some regions in southern Kenya, and most parts of Rwanda, Burundi, and Tanzania. On the other hand, light rainfall of less than 50mm is predicted in most parts of South Sudan, Uganda, central to western Ethiopia, and parts of southern Kenya.
For those living in Sudan, eastern Ethiopia, northern Kenya, and most parts of Somalia and Djibouti, dry conditions are expected during this period. It is important to note that 1 mm of rainfall is equivalent to 1 litre of water per square meter, emphasizing the impact that the predicted rainfall will have on the region.
As the weekend approaches, residents in the aforementioned areas should stay informed about the weather updates and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety and well-being. Stay prepared for the changing weather conditions and stay safe. By press time most parts of Uganda including Western Region and central region were experiencing excessive heat with temperatures of 28°C and a humidity of 59%.
