Police in are investigating the murder of an unidentified woman in her early 20s who was allegedly strangled and body dumped in a river.
The community members say this tragedy happened on 11tb March, 2024 at 1800hrs in Rwemishunga cell, Mashaku parish, Nyamirama sub county Kanungu District.
Robert Mugabe, the LC1 chairman of Rwemishunga cell said the body was discovered by people who were passing along the bank of river Ntungwa who found a dead body floating on river. These informed the chairperson who also sought further knowledge at Nyamirama police station.
ASP Elly Maate, the public relations officer of Kigezi region police said they visited, examined and documented the scene. He said the body had bruises on the arms and on the head as if she was pulled off the road.
Meanwhile, the body was retrieved from the river and taken to Kihiihi Health centre IV for postmortem.
ASP Maate urged the community members with a missing person to engage police and or should visit the health center mortuary to identify the retrieved body for burial.
Additionally, Maate appealed to anyone who may be having clues that can lead police to those behind her death to volunteer so that culprits are arrested and brought to book.
