Hon. Nyamutoro Phiona, the State Minister for Energy and Mineral Development, in her opening remarks as Guest of Honor, called on young women across the African Continent to work hard and strive to emancipate themselves from poverty and economic marginalization.

“Young Women of Africa Movement are the ones that drive Pan Africanism on the Continent. It’s a shame for a young African woman to dehumanize the African Continent”, she said.

Minister Nyamutoro called on the YWOA to strive to take part in all sectors of the socio-economic set up such as; leadership roles, sports, music and business to emancipate themselves from poverty and economic inequality.

“I advise all of you to ensure young women of Africa have a strong Pan African Movement that shall ensure it yields positive results”, she added.

Ms. Grace Kabayo, the Secretary General for the Pan African Women Organization and Senior Presidential Advisor, called on the young women of Africa to set an example of what it means to be a responsible mother.

“ Iam sure you all wish to raise up children as future responsible mothers, which is why you should be at the forefront to spearhead good moral values in families across the continent”, she said.

Ms. Kabayo, a Pan African Women Organization member for more than 20 years, told participants at the YWOA Kampala Chapter that PAWO used to be a Pan African Movement fighting for Liberation of African Countries from Colonialism and Apartheid in South Africa.

“AS I speak, to date PAWO is a specialized organ of the African Union (AU), whose mandate is to advocate for women rights and equality across the Continent”, she added.

“We need young women to be in critical decision making positions of leadership. This will help eradicate poverty and ignorance in women across the continent”, she said.
