At least ten people died on the spot following a road crash involving six motor vehicles at Kibimba after the bridge along Iganga – Tororo highway on Monday evening.
SP Micheal Kananura, the road safety and traffic directorate spokesperson said the incident occured after a trailer tanker registration number KAE 254C/ZA 5971 loaded with molase hit a commuter Taxi registration number UAW 963M Toyota Hiace that was trying to overtake squeezing it with another trailer registration number KBJ 155C/ZD 2621 M/BENZ.
“The trailer tanker lost control, overturned and caught fire. Ten people who include eight (8) passangers of a Taxi, its driver and the trailer driver died on the spot,” Kananura said.
Other motor vehicles involved are; KDY 526G/ZD4391 M/Benz Axor,
KDH 407T Toyota Land Cruiser and UAV 597N Toyota Hiace.
According to Kananura, all vehicles were moving to the same direction except one motor vehicle (Reg. No. KAE 254C/ZA 5971) tanker loaded with molase that was coming from the opposite direction heading to Iganga.
He said that the bodies were taken to Bugiri hospital mortuary for a postmortem while the motor vehicles were towed to Muwayo police station pending inspection.
A trailer loaded with molase is still guarded at the scene pending offloading meanwhile as investigations continues.
