The minister of ICT and national guidance Chris Baryomunsi has today released the official programme of the burial of fallen Gen. Elly Tumwine.
Renown of his great sense of humour, Gen. Tumwine passed on in Agha Khan hospital Nairobi on Thursday 25th August, 2022, at around 6:46am.
His remains were yesterday (August 26) returned to Uganda and were handed over to the UPDF and his family at Entebbe Airport. The body was later taken to Bombo barracks.
According to government’s programme, there will be a vigil at the late general’s home in Nakaseero, Kampala tomorrow Sunday August 28.
On Monday, the body of Gen. Elly Tumwine will be taken to Kololo Independence grounds for national prayers public viewing in the morning.
Dr. Baryomunsi noted in a programme that the body will thereafter be flown to the general’s ancestral home in Rwebikooma Kazo district where he will be laid to rest on Tuesday in a state funeral.
The commander in Chief, H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni Tibuhaburwa in a national announcement on Thursday disclosed that Gen. Elly Tumwine died of lung cancer.
Gen. Tumwine will be remebered for his greater contributions towards peace building in Uganda in as one of the most celebrated 27 Guerrilla war men. He shot the first bullet that brought the NRA present day NRM at Kabamba in 1986.
He has also served to among other capacities the minister of security, chairman of the general court martial and by the time of his death, he was the presidential advisor on security matters. MHSRIP
