Locals in Ibanda district were rocked by a suspected murder case when the police announced the disappearance and killing of a 62-year-old man known as Kiiza Emmanuel, who was a peasant in the Keihangara subcounty.
According to the police, Kiiza Emmanuel had two wives living in different villages. After leaving Keihangara in February this year, Kiiza Emmanuel had been living with one of his wives in Bwahwa village, Nyabuhikye subcounty also in Ibanda District.
On September 18, 2023, Kiiza Emmanuel left Bwahwa and headed for Keihangara. However, he never reached his destination, and efforts by his family to contact him proved futile.
Two days later, Kiiza Emmanuel was declared a missing person after his family reported the matter to Keihangara Police station and running announcements on one of the local radio stations and police began an intensive search.
All efforts continued to be futile until September 26, 2023, when herdsmen discovered a decomposing body in one of the farms in Keihangara IV who informed the family members.
After identifying the body, the family reported the matter to the police, and a team of investigators was dispatched to the scene.
Police conducted a thorough examination of the scene and conveyed the body to Ruhoko health center IV, pending post-mortem examinations. The investigation into the matter continues, as the police comment on the case.
SP Kasasira Samson, PRO Rwizi, told the press that the police had opened an inquiry into the disappearance turned murder of Kiiza Emmanuel. However, the police failed to disclose any possible motives or suspects, citing the preliminary stages of the investigation.
The local community was shaken by the brutal killing of Kiiza Emmanuel. Many residents have called on police to do everything possible to bring the perpetrators to justice.
