KAYUNGA
Four people including a minor have been confirmed dead following a nasty accident on Mukono-Kayunga Highway on Monday evening.
The victims have been identified as Peter Lukwago, a Councillor represented Nsotoka Parish in Kayunga Sub-county on NUP card, his wife Dorah Nawagi, and their 7-year-old child. The fourth person is a Boda Boda rider (identity not yet known) who was traveling alongside the family.
Preliminary reports indicate that the accident was caused by a speeding vehicle, Toyota Wish, Reg. No. UBC 311B which lost control after one of it’s tyres burst, rammed into their motorcycles at Namaliiri.
The four died on the spot. One child who was riding with a separate Boda Boda survived but sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Kayunga Regional Referral Hospital for treatment.
Patrick Sserubiri, NUP’s Kayunga District chairperson, confirmed the reports and described the late Lukwago as a “committed” party activist whose determination to cause change in the country was cut short.
Residents appealed to the government to enforce road safety and improve on maintenance of high-risk roads like the Mukono-Kayunga road, which they claim has become a death spot for many road users.
Bodies were taken to Kayunga Hospital Mortuary for a postmortem.
