KAMPALA
The Uganda Electricity distribution company limited has promised it’s customers of Bugisu sub-region a full power restoration after floods at Mbale sub-station greatly affected the power supply to areas of Nakaloke, Budadiri,Bududa, Manafwa, Buwarasi, Sironko and some parts of kacumbala.
According to Jonan Kiiza the UEDCL spokesperson,UEDCL sustained a flood at Mbale sub-station in the night and the station went on hold to ensure both equipment and public safety.
“Yesterday we swung in to ensure that the sub-station is restored and the greater part of the day we were draining water out of the critical equipment,” Jonan said.
“But also ensuring that they are dry for safety purposes, the station was not energized by close of business yesterday to secure the equipment because the equipment was still wet,” he added.
UEDCL has encouraged its customers to switch off all the gadgets in the mean time, keep their appliances off to avoid power surges.
It should be recalled that since UEDCL took over the power distribution mantle from Umeme in March 2005, the power horse has experienced a lot of take over challenges not limited to power black outs that have triggered many power users to react negatively. However, some early achievements have also been recorded such as the additional of over 640,000 new connections and reduced losses.
