KAMPALA,
Police in Yumbe District are investigating the sudden death of a 54-year-old Bangladeshi national who was found dead in a lodge room on Saturday morning.
The deceased, identified as Poni Islam, was a resident of Lomunga Town Council and an employee of WKK Company, a contractor working on the Yumbe–Terego road project.
According to the North West Nile Regional Police Spokesperson, SP Collins Asea, the incident happened at Ruvanna Inn Bar and Lodges in Yumbe Town Council, where Islam had checked in on May 1, 2026.
SP Asea said the body was discovered at around 7:00 AM on May 2 after a lodge attendant became concerned when a phone kept ringing inside the room without any response.
“The attendant raised an alarm after noticing that the occupant was not opening despite the phone ringing repeatedly,” SP Asea said.
Police officers were called to the scene and later broke into the room, where they found Islam lying lifeless.
Preliminary findings show no immediate signs of violence, but the exact cause of death is yet to be established. The body has been taken for a postmortem examination to determine what led to his death.
Islam had been working on the ongoing Yumbe–Terego road construction, a key infrastructure project in the region.
His death has left colleagues and residents in the area shocked, with many describing him as a quiet man who kept to himself.
Police say investigations are ongoing and have urged anyone with information that.
