The International Youth Day is here. Countries are looking forward to leveraging the full potential of the generations to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.
In Uganda, the youth constitute the largest percentage of the population (77%) and worse still, they are the most affected by skyrocketing unemployment.
Faizo Muzeyi, the UPC head of media and communication suggests that government should create programmes and opportunities to address the unemployment situation in the country
“The past is for the old, the present is for adults and the future is for the youths. It is at this point, that the government has thought to engage the youths in moulding their future at an early stage,” Muzeyi Faizo said.
UPC is concerned about so many wasted opportunities and hopes for the youths through various programs like Bonna bagagawale, Youth livelihood program and others which often fail due to poor organization, implementation and lack of enough information and data with practical aims and objectives.
This Muzeyi noted that there’s heavy lack of information among the youth about government programs which hinders their effective implementation.
The UPC appeals for proper implementation of the Parish Development Model to create a Uganda of people of all ages.
In Uganda, commemoration of the day will be at Kaunda Grounds, Gulu City on Friday, 12th August, under the theme: “Inter generational solidarity; the role of youth in the implementation of the Parish Development Model” whereas the global theme is: “Intergenerational solidarity: creating a world for all Ages”
