“If you put funds in such a campaign we would possibly use less resources and get more dividends.” FDC noted

The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has commended the Kabaka of Buganda, His Majesty Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II on his recognition award for the fight against HIV/AIDS in Uganda by UNIAIDS.

“We congratulate His Majesty the king of Buganda Ssaabasajja Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II for the recognition he received yesterday from UNAIDS led by Eng. Winnie Byanyima”, said FDC

On Sunday (July 3) during the Kabaka Birthday run, the United Nations World Aids Programme (UNAIDS) presented to the Kabaka with an award for his efforts in the fight against AIDS in Buganda kingdom and Uganda at large

FDC has applauded Ssabasajja for his tireless campaign against HIV /AIDS in the country. They suggest that government should provide both financial support and health workers to assist the Kabaka and Bugabda in particular to fight AIDS.

“FDC appeals to those in power to recognize people who have alot of influence  because Ugandans would like to follow those who are not looking for votes.” said FDC

They added; “If you put funds in such a campaign we would possibly use less resources and get more dividends.”

This Kabaka Birthday run is an annual event under the King’s five-year campaign to increase the uptake of HIV testing and treatment services among Buganda men and boys.

During the run, Winnie Byanyima, the Executive director UNAIDS also hailed the leadership of Kabaka Mutebi II for leading a fight against HIV in the region

“Your Majesty, under your leadership and through your messages to men and boys, Buganda has made remarkable progress against the AIDS pandemic in the last five years,” said Ms Byanyima, “UNAIDS looks forward to strengthening our partnership to reach other vulnerable groups such as young women and adolescent girls and to get Africa on track to end AIDS as a public health threat by 2030.”

She also noted a decrease of more than half of new HIV infections in Buganda in the last five years.

“At least 92% of people who tested positive to HIV in Buganda are now on treatment, which is up from 62 percent in the earlier years. Thanks to your leadership.” She said.

This years Kabaka Birthday run attracted more than 80,000 runners in an event funded by Airtel telecom and other partners in Mengo and many others from different parts of Buganda.
