The deputy secretary for publicity (publication and documentation) of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), Mulindwa Walid Lubega has admitted that creation of “malicious propaganda” than politics of nationalism contribute to the party’s losing its parliamentary seat in Thursday’s Dokolo by-election.
According to Mulindwa, there was too much spread of propaganda been pouring out over the campaign season against the identity of their candidate their candidate, Dr. Rosemary Alwoc Ogwal based on her birth place which he believes contributed to her election loss.
“Our candidate is a born of Kole district where her late mother was buried. So, that local propaganda actually worked against our candidate,” he said.
FDC however conceded defeat in the election and congratulated the UPC candidate Sarah Aguti Nyangkori on winning the election noting that they are going to apply the experience obtained from the Dokolo by-election to prepare for future elections.
“We congratulate the UPC candidate Hon. Sarah Aguti Nyangkori, for winning this fiercely contested election. We may have not won primarily due to malicious propaganda against her (Dr. Alwoc) and various other factors, which we will thoroughly analyze for future elections,” said Mulindwa.
They however decried broad daylight electoral irregularities such as voter bribery, ballot stuffing among others particularly by the NRM and demanded for sanity in all national elections.
Last week on Thursday, Dokolo district went on polls to elect their woman member of parliament to replace the former woman MP, late Hon. Cecilia Ogwal Barbrah in a hotly contested by-election. The UPC candidate, Sarah Aguti was declared a winner after she obtained the highest number of votes 23,044 against NRM’s Janet Adongo Elau’s 14,001 votes. The FDC candidate, Dr Alwoc became third with 8,168 votes followed by Akullo Esther Obot – (indep) 790 votes. NUP candidate Ageno Harriet got 727 votes while Arao Rebecca (indep) got only 430 votes.
