President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has appointed events promoter and his son’s Yes Man, Balaam Barugahare minister of state for gender, labour and social development.
Balaam, the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) formerly MK Movement propagandist replaces Hon. Sarah Mateke Nyirabadhitsi, also the district woman member of parliament for Kisoro who has been holding this position since 2021. Nyirabashitsi now goes to ministry of defense and veteran affairs as the state minister.
The constitution of Uganda grants powers to the president to appoint l, amend the list of cabinet ministers. On Thursday evening, March 21, President Museveni released an amended list of his cabinet ministers in which he made slight changes.
Balaam is known for engaging in media conflicts with opposition MPs and other individual civilians opposed to Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba political propaganda. The propagandist at one time collided with the Mukolo district Woman MP Betty Bakireke Nambooze alias Teacher on a live television show who christened him a political “useful idiot”.
Among other newly appointed ministers include the Kitgum district woman MP Lillian Aber who has been appointed minister of state for disaster and preparedness (Office of Prime Minister), Kenneth Omona, the Principal Private Secretary to H.E. the President of the Republic of Uganda who has been appointed minister of state OPM (Northern Uganda), National Youth MP Phionah Nyamutoro who has been appointed minister of state for energy and mineral development among others.
In the new reshuffle, Museveni dropped ministers Implicated in Karamoja Iron sheets scandal namely the minister OPM (Karamoja Affairs) Mary Gorret Kitutu and her state minister Agnes Nandutu. The duo are still battling court cases related to mismanagement of public funds among others.
