Makerere University ex VC also the former presidential aspirant in the 2016 elections Prof Venansius Baryamureeba is watching the dusk behind the bars for knocking dead a pedestrian.
Reports by Kabalagala police station have it that while driving in his Mercedes Benz vehicle, Prof Baryamureeba knocked two female pedestrians and a perimeter wall leaving one dead and another critically injured.
The deceased has been identified as Jagenda Mariam while another woman who survived is Mariam Namusoke.
The fatal accident occurred at around 1pm at Kibuli – Muyenga junction in Makindye Division.
Witnesses blames the accident on reckless driving.
Police arrived at the scene of the accident and rushed Jagenda’s body to Mulago city mortuary for a postmortem whereas Namusoke is admitted at Mulago where she’s nursing wounds.
Prof Baryamureeba’s vehicle was impounded to Kabalagala police station as thorough vehicle inspections awaits.
By press time, Prof Baryamureeba was still detained at Kabalagala police station on charges of reckless driving while police carries out further investigations.
