The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Martins Okoth Ochola has said that they are going to expand the use of technology in Policing and fighting crime next year 2024.
The IGP made revelations in a Christmas message to Ugandans yesterday December 22, 2023.
In a message read to media by police spokesperson, SCP Fred Enanga at Police Headquarters Naguru, IGP Ochola said the year 2023 has been the most challenging to police with deadly terror attacks such as the ADF attack of Lubhiriha SSS in Kasese that left over 42 students brutally killed among increased murder cases across the country.
He however, highlighted some of the key achievements which includes the reduction of gun related crime and acid attacks and making a break through in the murder case of Joan Kagezi where some key suspects were arrested.
The IGP attributed this success to the hard work of the police in coordination with sister security agencies such as the reorganization of CID where there is improved detection and investigation, the robust crime intelligence directorate that has built a proactive network of credible informants, and also the strategic partnerships with the communities to disrupt and dismantle criminals .
“Despite these challenges, the IGP is pleased to announce that 2023 has also been good year for policing in the country where the police and sister security agencies of the UPDF, Prisons, SFC , the Joint intelligence component of CMI , ISO and ESO, the joint anti terrorism task team carried out specific and joint operations which made our country Uganda, one of the safest countries on the continent” Enanga said.
IGP Ochola expressed readiness by the Uganda to fight crimes and improve on policing using the available digital technologies in the year 2024. He appealed to Ugandans to stay vigilant while they are marking celebration of the Christmas festivities.
