Katureebe handover of the office comes after serving for Five years at the helm of the judiciary. The handover ceremony was at High Court premises in Kampala today morning.

While handing over office, Katureebe who thinks has done his best said that as the sun rise and sets, its his time to retire.

Earlier on, he had stated that he shall have three months at the supreme court to preside over three cases that were presented to him whereafter he shall go to his home in Lugazi Bunyaruguru present day Rubirizi district in the south western Uganda.

CJ Bart Katureebe handover office to Deputy CJ Owinyi Dolo.

“I want to show people that you can retire and go home…. I shall be coming to Kampala as a visitor,” Katureebe earlier stated.

Deputy CJ Owinyi Dolo who assumed office said that he will hold the office temporary until the president appoints a substantial Chief Justice.

It should be well recalled that the Judicial Services Commission proposed names to the president to appoint a Chief Justice to replace Justice Bart Katureebe.

The  proposed names are; Deputy CJ Justice Alfonse Owiny-Dolo Chigamony, Richard Buteera, and Esther Mayambala Kisakye the fold Museveni is likely to pick from.

According to Article 144 (1) of the Constitution, a retiring judge may stay in office for three more months in order to dispose of pending judicial work.

Justice Bart Katureebe who assumed powers in March2015 replacing Justice Benjamin Odoki has registered a number of successes which include among others; establishment of Electronic Court Case Management (Virtual Courts),construction of the Appellate courts which is in course, Administration of the Judiciary Bill and reducing on the judicial case backlogs.
