In a recent progressive report on a double murder case, suspect Arinaitwe Denis has been sentenced to 70 years behind bars for the brutal killings of two women. The first victim, university student Naturinda Sarah, was strangled to death, followed by the shooting of police officer Komuhangi Caroline at Kabale police barracks. The tragic incidents occurred on the 19th of March 2023.
Denis opted for plea bargaining, leading to a 35-year sentence for each account of murder. As a result, he will spend a total of 70 years in Ndorwa prison. The sentencing was carried out by His Lordship Justice Samuel Emokor, the Kabale high court circuit judge, during a recent court appearance on the 18th of March 2024.
This case serves as a stern warning to those who resort to violence and criminal acts. It highlights the importance of resolving conflicts through peaceful and lawful means rather than taking matters into one’s own hands. The statement by ASP Elly Maate, PRO Kigezi, emphasizes the need for individuals to uphold the law and seek amicable solutions to disputes.
The judiciary’s firm stance on this matter aims to deter others from committing similar heinous crimes. It sends a clear message that justice will prevail, and perpetrators will be held accountable for their actions. As the community reflects on this tragic event, it is crucial to prioritize peaceful conflict resolution and respect for the rule of law to prevent such senseless acts of violence in the future.
