KABALE
The ministry of information, Communication, technology and national guidance has today launched a regional ICT innovation hub at Kabale University in Kabale District.
While officiating at the official launch, Assistant Commissioner at Ministry of information, communication, technology Silas Ngabirano who represented the minister Dr Chris Baryomunsi as the guest of honor asked students to take advantage of the hub and utilize it with the innovation skills they have to join world’s modern technology.
Ngabirano made this call after discovering potential innovations while witnessing student innovation demonstrations where one of the students had developed light control system and Computer eye clicking system saying that with such innovations, Kabale University is strategically positioned to be the leading institution in such innovations across the country.
Speaking at the same function, Chairperson University Council, Hon Adson Kakuru told students to take advantage of the hub and do what it takes to develop themselves. He also implored stakeholders to create productive social network aimed at making unsolicited proposals to lobby more projects aimed at making the university grow and flourish.
The University Vice Chancellor, Prof Joy Constance Kwesiga hailed Ministry of ICT and national guidance and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) for allocating funds to start the innovation hub and Incubation center at the University.
However, Assoc Prof. Businge Phelix Mbabazi, the dean faculty of computing, library and Information science says that they are currently facing challenges in terms of running hub, operation manuals and costs and limited computers. He asked for more equipment to support the hub.
Kabale University becomes the third university across the country to have a regional ICT innovation hub after Soroti and Muni universities.
