Karyeija’s victory is a reclaim of his seat which was taken away from him by a column of his councillors in 2017 after he was censured on allegations of misuse of office and other corruption related scandals.

Celebrated for fighting against Banana Bacteria Wilt, a disease that had destroyed banana plantations in the district between 2010 and 2012, fighting against Teachers’ absenteeism in government schools and fostering development in the district, among other achievements, Karyeija has held the LCV chairperson seat since 2010 when Mitooma was accorded a district status.
