The ministry of health has comeout to clear the air on the delayed distribution of free government facemasks in the Kigezi region.
Emmanuel Ainebyona, the ministry of Health Spokesperson expounds that the delay is as a result of lack of supplies from the manufacturers.
He assured the public that as long as masks are available, all the targeted districts will get.
The remarks follow complaints by Leaders in border districts in the Kigezi region led by Rubanda District Health Officer Dr. Abdon Birungi over the ministry’s failure to deliver face masks to the border districts neighbouring Rwanda and the DRC.
It should be recalled that government through MoH had earlier stated that all border districts would have masks by the end of June however, this was never a case in the Kigezi region — Western Uganda where masks were only distributed in Rukungiri and Kabale with leaving behind Kanungu, Rukiga, Kisoro, Rubanda and Rubirizi which are close neighbours to Rwanda and DRC.
Local leaders now say that people do not wear masks under pretexts of delayed distribution thus violating health guidelines on COVID-19 and limiting their efforts to enforce them.
