The police in Kabale is holding in detention a municipal council commercial officer on allegations of obtaining money by false pretense.
Federisi Akankwatsa, allegedly issued a bouncing cheque of forty nine million Uganda shillings, (49m ugx) Leo Mbabazi a resident of Kigongi B” cell Central ward/ division Kabale municipality/ district who he had sold an estate in Kakoba Mbarara city in December, 2022, before reselling it to another buyer.
It is reported that the duo had agreed on a payment of Shs550m and Mbabazi had deposited a down payment of Shs100m which the suspect (Akankwatsa) failed to refund after telling him that he was no longer selling.
“And instead of paying back the complaint his 100m he had deposited, instead paid back 50,250,000= remaining with a balance of 49m which he gave a bank cheque which bounced in February 2023,” police reported
ASP Elly Mate, the Kigozi region police spokesperson said the suspect was arrested from his hideout in Kabale yesterday (December 12) after months of manhunt since March 13, 2023.
Maate said Akankwatsa is now detained at CPS Kabale pending court once inquiries are completed.
Upon completion of inquiries, will be produced before courts of law to answer charges accordingly.
