Yesterday, President Yoweri Museveni commissioned the 132 KV Mirama-Kabale Transmission Line at Hamuko-Kabale substation, marking a major milestone in Uganda’s energy and industrialization efforts.
The NRM Western Regional Coordinator, Muhangi Zephline, commended the president for improving electric connectivity in rural areas, stating that the new power line will drive large-scale industrialization in the region, addressing longstanding power shortages that have hindered heavy industries such as steel manufacturing.
Despite abundant iron ore deposits, limited electricity had previously restricted local production and job creation in Uganda.
Following the commissioning, the team visited Evas Akampurira, a beneficiary of the Parish Development Model (PDM) program in Rubanda District. Akampurira started with 50 chickens purchased using PDM funds and has since expanded to 357 layer chickens and two pigs. Her success story demonstrates the potential of small-scale investments to grow into profitable enterprises.
Muhangi emphasized the importance of value addition in agriculture, citing opportunities in producing baby food for export and pork products like sausages. The event underscored the government’s commitment to economic empowerment, infrastructure development, and innovation, reinforcing its vision for a prosperous Uganda.
