The Kira municipality member of parliament, Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda has accused president Museveni and his aides of treating oil as an NRM project.
Ssemujju was speaking to journalists on Monday at the FDC headquarters in Najjanankumbi Kampala.
“This is a national resource that must be managed transparently. People whether black or white must be free to speak about it,” he said
The remarks follow recent utterances by the deputy speaker of parliament Rt. Hon. Thomas Bangirana Tayebwa and President Museveni against resolutions by the European Union parliament stopping the construction of East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) in Uganda and Tanzania over compensation, climate change and human rights violations.
Ssemujju commended the EU for the resolutions made advising government to respond to the issues raised by the EU than hiring hooligans to stage demonstrations.
“All we expect that Museveni government to do is not to hire demonstrators to storm EU offices in Kampala or swear racial obscene words but to respond to each issue that the EU has raised,” Ssemujju stated.
He says that Uganda has invested lots of money on the oil project on infrastructures, compensation and provision of electricity delay of which will affect the national economy but called for a high level of transparency in management of the sector.
