As corona virus pandemic continues to bit, Boda Boda operators in Namutumba district have started offering affected private school teachers Shs300 to record details of each passenger ridden.
Last Tuesday, President Museveni allowed boda bodas to resume carrying passengers on conditions that they record each passenger’s name, phone numbers and destination.
The President said the directive is meant to help in contact tracing should a Covid-19 cases be reported within a particular Boda Boda community.
Samuel Wemunya, the Chairperson of boda boda riders in Namutumba District says many of riders cannot read and write thus decided to employ Teachers affected by the pandemic.
He adds that they resolved to raise fares by Shs500 to cater for the teachers who are currently not earning a penny to get some means of survival.
He said if Teachers fail to grab the offer, they will hire secondary school students in the area.
“If some teachers are not willing to take the Shs300 offer per passenger, we shall turn to secondary students in the area,” said Mr. Wemunya.
The contracted teachers will according to Wemunye sit at their designated stages and once a passenger comes, they immediately capture his or her details.
He adds that a separate book shall be used to record the number of passengers the teacher has recorded which then shall be tallied to get his/her payments before they are relieved from work at 6pm.
Private teachers are among professionals who have been affected by the lockdown after the government closed all schools in March over Covid-19.
