President Yoweri Museveni has renewed contracts for three Electoral Commission (EC) officials and made several other changes in the new appointments.
The reappointed officials are Justice Simon Mugenyi Byabakama, chairperson, Hajjat Aisha Lubega, the Deputy Chairperson, and Mr Stephen Tashobya, a commissioner. The trio retained their positions.
New faces according to the appointment letter include Makerere University Political Scientist Dr. Ssimba Ssali Kayunga, former Kyoga County MP Anthony Okello, and Pamela Etonu Okudi, the Acting Head of Administration at EC.
The appointees are tasked with overseeing the 2026 general elections. They will serve a seven-year term.
Before assuming office, the nominees will now undergo vetting by Parliament for approval of their new roles. The appointment follow expiration of the former election commissioners on Sunday January 7.
