The new board of trustees of the Uganda National Cultural Centre (UNCC) has been sworn in.
The minister of Gender, Labor and Social Development, Betty Amongi presided over the inauguration on Friday, April 5 at the ministry headquarters, at George Street, Nakaseero Hill, Kampala.
Cabinet recently approved appointment of Members of the Board of Trustees of Uganda National Cultural Centre for the next three (3) years following expiration of tenure of the previous board on 25th June 2022.
The news Board which was sworn in today are; Prof. Okaka Opio D – (Chairperson), Ms. Phina Mugerwa -(Vice Chairperson), Bugingo Hannington -(Member), Lillian Mbabazi – (Member), and Dr. Richard Komakech – (Member)
Others are singers Joseph Mayanja – (Member), Moses Ssali – (Member) and gender ministry commissioner Juliana A. Naumo – (Member).
“The new board of Trustees for UNCC is a reflection of the Cultural Heritage and mirrors the demographic landscape with the young people in the majority. The new Board is comprised of big names in the Arts and Culture and we have no doubt each member will bring a unique set of skills and experiences that will contribute to the success of UNCC in fostering cultural exchange and artistic expression,” said MGLSD in a statement.

The new board is envisioned to provide strategic policy direction for the cultural sector, support artists’ contributions to national development, and strengthen governance within the cultural community.
The minister congratulated the new leaders on their new roles and implored them to build on the previous board’s plans to establish regional theatres and cultural centres across the country.
“Our hope is that the board of trustees will build on success made by the outgoing board including building on plans to establish theaters and cultural centers in the regions, encouraging and developing cultural and artistic activities, and accommodating societies, groups, and organizations with cultural, artistic, philanthropic, or educational purposes,” she said.
