The Deputy Secretary General of National Resistance Movement (NRM), Rose Namayanja Nsereko has appealed to all party supporters and new members willing to join the movement to take part in the ongoing party’s registration and update of registers exercise.

Namayanja made the remarks yesterday while she monitored exercise in various registration points in Kampala and Wakiso districts. She said the process was going on smoothly and asked members who have not yet visited the registration centres to do so.

The countrywide NRM register update exercise commenced on Wednesday with a remarkable turn up of members, who diligently verified their membership status in the yellow books within their respective villages and branches.

Registration of new members and update of registers by NRM ongoing nationwide.

Namayanja emphasized the importance of member participation in the exercise, underlining that only registered members would be eligible to vote in the structure and primary elections preceding the 2026 general elections.

“The register will undergo printing and then be presented to the people for scrutiny before returning to the national level,” she said.

The deputy SG further emphasized the party’s commitment to eliminating potential obstacles associated with holding primaries, with mechanisms in place to promptly address any concerns raised by members. She clarified that the party is registering only those physically present to ensure accurate record-keeping in the yellow book throughout the registration exercise.

According to her, the NRM will possess a legitimate, certified register in compliance with the party’s roadmap. She also noted that teams are deployed nationwide to ensure the exercise proceeds seamlessly, with no interferences.

In related stories, the party National Treasurer, Hon. Amb. Nekesa Barbara Oundo who also updated her membership in Busia district, emphasized the vital importance of the process.

“We will use the same register for our structure elections shortly,” she remarked.

Oundo appealed to members to ensure their details were accurately captured, stressing alignment with the National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA)’s records.

“I urge everyone to utilize these five days to crosscheck their details in the NRM membership register,” she urged. “Remember, this is not a voter’s register but a register for party faithful aged 16 and above. Let’s approach this as a collective responsibility, with everyone playing a vigilant role.”

The registration exercise will continue until Sunday, March 17, 2024.
