● The Speaker of parliament, Rt. Hon. Anitah Annette Among (in a speech read to her by Hon. Akampurira Prossy) has also hailed Hon. Juliet Agasha Bashiisha, the Mitooma district Woman Member of Parliament, for being a pillar in organizing and mobilizing fellow MPs
Speaker Anitah Annet Among has contributed Shillings 20 millions (cash) towards the roofing of Uganda Martyrs’ Catholic Parish Ryakahimbi, Mitooma.
Rt. Hon. Among who was reprepresented by Hon. Prossy Akampurira Mbabazi, the Rubanda district Woman MP, announced the donation at a fundraising drive at the Parish on Sunday.
In her address to the congregation read by the Hon. Akampurira, she commended Christians for shouldering the burden of constructing a house of God.
Speaker also hailed the Mitooma district Woman member of Parliament, Hon. Juliet Agasha Bashiisha for being a pillar in organizing and mobilizing fellow MPs toward noble causes both within the August house and in communities.
She tasked christians to work hard and generate resources to enable them to contribute to such projects and improve on household income.
Hon. Akampurira, on her behalf implored parents in Mitooma district on nurturing their children in order to raise responsible citizens in the country.
Construction of the Ryakahimbi Parish kicked off in March 2019 at Ryakahimbi Hill in Mitooma Town Council Mitooma district
Speaking during the event, Hon. Agasha . Juliet Bashiisha commended her colleague MPs for the spirit of togetherness and honouring her invitation to build for the Lord.
Rev Fr. John Baptist Turimwomujuni, the Episcopal Vicar of the greater Bushenyi was the main celebrant of the fundraising mass. He was representing the Archdiocese of Mbarara Archdiocese Rt. Rev. Lambert Bainomugisha. Turimwomujuni was also assisted by the Ryakimbi parish priest Rev. Fr. Mugabi Grevase alias Fr. Kagame among other priests and religious men and women.
The Vicar thanked the speaker and legislators and the Christians fraternity for their contributions towards construction of the house of God.
Ryakahimbi Parish is one of the youngest parishes in Mbarara Archdiocese having been founded in August 2016.
The church is currently on roofing stage with nearly shillings 500 millions Shillings to completions.
Former Mitooma Town Council LCV Councillor, Robert Nuwagira Kikwara, a christian also a member of the construction committee says that when completed, Ryakahimbi parish will have a sitting capacity of about 3,000 people, one of the largest churches in the district
Over 50 MPs from Mitooma district and parts of the country attended the fundraising function.They are Hon. Margret Ayebare, (Mbarara WMP), Hon. Kamukama Benjamin (Ruhaama East MP), Hon. Bazil Bataringaya Rwankene (Kashari North MP), Hon.Mugumya Claire (Isingiro WMP), Minister of Internal Affairs Maj. Gen. Kahinda Otafiire (Ruhinda county MP), Hon. Kamateneti Josyline (Ntungamo WMP), Hon. Dicksons Kateshumbwa, (Sheema municipality MP), Hon. Tayebwa Herbert (Kashongi county MP) among others.
Among notable dignitaries included greater Bushenyi local government leaders, religious leaders from different relegious denominations and the business fraternity.
Over shillings 200 millions has been raised in today’s fundraising toward the completion of the church’s construction.
