Police have condemned acts of violence against their officers on lawful duties by groups of self-seeking Ugandans.

The condemnation follow incident where two armed police officers in Pallisa were attacked and assaulted by an irate mob at a function where they had been deployed to provide security.

The act happened at Atukei street, Paliisa central, Paliisa town council, in Paliisa District.

According to ASP Immaculate Alaso, the Bukedi North region police spokesperson, two police officers identified as PPC Kiseka Samuel and PPC Alyomu Ibra attached to FFU were on December 5, 2021 at aroynd 1500hrs attacked by a group of persons who in a scuffle failed on attempts to steal the officer’s guns.

Alaso says that the mob wanted to trespass and disrupt a function that was being held at the home of Kagumya Siraji but were blocked bu security.

“When the officers blocked and asked them to identify themselves, they refused and instead ganged on the two police officers. They assaulted them with the intention of stealing their guns.” Alaso said.

She added that police was notified on the attack and responded on time to reinforce the officers.

Police led by DPC, ASP Mugerwa Umar, dispersed the rowdy group using tear gas, after they defied police orders to leave the area.

About 27 suspects have been apprehended to help police in investigation.

Police says acts of violence and assault of their officers endanger their efforts to protect the public and their property.

They have vowed to arrest anybody that was involved in the attacks.

“We want to assure the public that we have directed sufficient resources to the investigation, to help apprehend all suspects involved in the horrendous tragedy,” Alaso explained.
