COU Head Criticizes Canterbury Appointment

The Uganda Police Force (UPF) has said they are examining footages on surveillance cameras on the road to track down assailants who attacked and shot at Pastor Alosius Bugingo last night.

Pr. Bugingo, a popular preacher in Uganda, and businessman was on Tuesday evening at around 9pm attacked by unknown gun men who fired at his car with a private registration number “PRAIZ GOD” killing his bodyguard on the spot.

The shooting incident happened at along Namungona, Zone II, Kasubi , Rubanga Division at Bwalakata Junction along National Housing Road in Kampala City.

ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police says they have started investigation into this tragic incident.

“In our active pursuit of justice, we are thoroughly reviewing CCTV footage to identify the assailants. Updates will be provided as additional information becomes available,” said Owoyesigyire.

Owoyesigyire identified the deceased bodyguard as Muhumuza Richard. He died upon arrival at Mulago hospital.

“Despite sustaining injuries during the attack, Pastor Aloysious Bugingo managed to transport the vehicle to Mulago Hospital. Regrettably, his bodyguard, Muhumuza Richard, succumbed to the assault and was confirmed dead upon arrival at the hospital,” police reported.

The assailants later escaped the scene on a motorcycle to unknown destination.

Police arrived at the scene of the crime unfortunately, they found out that it had been tampered something that is likely to interfere with investigations.

“Upon an immediate response to the incident, the police discovered that the scene had been tampered with,” said Owoyesigyire.

The deceased body was taken to city mortuary Mulago for a postmortem examination while Pastor Bugingo is currently undergoing medical treatment under close monitoring by security.

Police said a comprehensive report will be provided immediately after the investigation is complete.
