Mbarara City Police have made a significant breakthrough in the fight against motorcycle theft in the region. Acting on a tip-off from the Chairman LC1 of Lubiri Cell Nyamityobora ward, authorities raided a gated premises believed to be harboring suspected motorcycle thieves.
Upon conducting a search in the rented room of one Twakiire Ivan, who is currently on the run, police recovered five Bajaj Boxer motorcycles, all painted in red. These motorcycles, bearing registration numbers UEX 948U, UEZ 259Y, UES 834V, UDS 667A, and UFS 625S, along with five registration number plates and various spare parts, were seized and are currently being held at the Mbarara CPS.
The landlord, Mr. Runezerwa Ntwari, was taken into custody to assist with further investigations, while efforts are underway to track down Twakiire Ivan and other potential suspects involved in the criminal activity.
During the operation, police were forced to deploy bullets and tear gas to disperse a group of angry boda boda riders who had gathered in protest outside the premises.
As the investigation continues, SP Kasasira Samson, the PRO for Rwizi Region, has assured the public that all recovered items will be used as evidence in the ongoing case. The police remain committed to cracking down on criminal activities and ensuring the safety and security of the community.
