The Uganda Red Cross Society has on Monday donated relief items to families in CHOGM slum whose houses and businesses were destroyed by fires over the weekend.
On Friday last week, fire gutted CHOGM slums in Seguku Lubowa in Makindye Ssabagabo Division Wakiso District. The fires that destroyed a number of wooden houses left a many people homeless and businesses affected.
The Red Cross team visited the scene of the infernos and made an assessment, to deliver relief items to the affected families over.
The Red Cross Kampala South Branch Chairman and former area member of parliament, Emmanuel Ssempala Kigozi alias Ssajjalyabeene led the relief item distribution exercise to residents.
Among the distributed items include non-food items like Tarpaulins, jerrycans, cooking pots, plates, cups, serving Spoons, knives, Soap, mosquito nets, solar Kits, mats and blankets
Speaking at the distribution exercise, Ssajjalyabeene said the items will help victims to set up temporary housing facilities meanwhile as they develop other possible mechanisms.
“We hope the support given will help the family to set up temporary structures and survive through as they develop coping mechanisms.” Kigozi said
About 40 households were affected when a fire razed down their houses in CHOGM village Naziba zone in Seguku along Entebbe road and over 21 businesses were burnt and destroyed in the same fire that broke out last Friday
