KAMPALA:
There are fast growing rifts at Kampala Capital City Authority as disagreements between the Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago and councilors take charge.
As you read these, the councilors have started blocking the Lord Mayor from presenting names of members to represent the council in KCCA school and the authority Public Accounts Committee.
On Wednesday alone, the Lord Mayor chaired a meeting at City Hall where KCCA council meetings are designated to be conducted and announced to the council the names of members representing the council in KCCA schools and the KCCA public accounts committee.
As he read out the names, a section of councilors shouted on top of their voices and stiffly opposed him from presenting the names.
According to Lukwago, the authority has failed to perform as expected due to lack of active working committees something that has wasted a lot of time and tax payers money without any business.
He was only allowed to table names of those Councilors to represent the council on KCCA schools and denied him the chance to present names of those on public accounts committee.
Some Councilors noted that they could not allow the lord mayor to present names of people on public accounts committees that they have not scrutinized .
Speaking during the council sitting Lukwago called for changes and cautioned the Councilors for turning the authority into a place peddling on rumors. He further called for a change of conduct if they are to realize their objectives at KCCA.
Tensions continued to ensue and the KCCA speaker Zahara Luyirika urged the lord mayor to separate the issues if he wants to table them before the council .
The strong words of the speaker irritated the lord mayor and who moved out of the council meeting in protest.
Councilor Luyirika also used the same meeting to decry the delayed facilitation of the office by the government.
