The High Court in Kampala is expected to give a ruling in Rt. Col. Dr. Kizza Besigye application challenging the ridiculous 30m shillings cash bail.
The ruling was scheduled on June6, 2022, today at High Court, Constitutional Square Kampala at 0900am when court will determine on Besigye’s bail fate.
It should be recalled that the Buganda Road Court magistrate Siena Owomugisha recently issued directive to Dr Besigye to pay Sh30 million cash bail to allow him release from prison on charges of inciting violence which he committed when he protested against skyrocketing prices of commodities in the country last month.
He was arrested together with others including Samuel Walter Lubega Mukaaku Fred Kato and others.
When they’re arraigned to court, the magistrate released Besigye’s accomplices some on cash bail and others like Mukaaku on non cash bail while Besigye was ordered to pay Sh30m cash bail and Sh70 millions non cash bail by each of his two sureties; Wafula Ogutu , former leader of opposition in parliament and Harold Kaijja, FDC deputy Secretary General, to allow him granted bail.
However, Dr Besigye through his lawyers declined to pay the money asked for noting that it was too much for him to pay which got him to Luzira where he’s currently detained.

“Buganda Rd Court, where I’ve been charged with “Inciting violence”, has just granted me cash bail of Shs 30m! I consider this an extension of the injustices I’ve faced for long. I’ve asked my lawyers to appeal it as I endure remand. All Ugandans should stand firm Vs injustices,” he tweeted.” Besigye said in a social media post.
His lawyers appealed against the cash bail and the High Court gave them upto May 30 to file submissions regarding their appeal.
“The High Court has issued timelines and guidelines for the hearing and disposal of apoeal against the unreasonable cash bail of Sh30m issued by the Buganda Road Court magistrate Siena Owomugisha,” counsel Lukwago said.
Court also gave state responds upto June2 to file their defence submission and then a ruling in the case will be done today Monday 6th June.
Rtd. Col. Dr Kizza Besigye will be at the High Court to hear the ruling in his Application.
